CapCut Templates vs AI Trend Videos: Which Should You Use?
CapCut templates, prompt generators like Dreamina and photo-to-trend templates make very different videos. Here is what each one does, when it wins and when it can't do the job.
When a clip goes viral, the first thing most people search is "[trend] capcut template". Sometimes that is exactly right. Sometimes the template doesn't exist yet, can't do what the trend needs, or only gets you a few seconds of someone else's edit. Here are the three ways to make a trend video and when each one wins.
The short answer
- Free, fast, and you already edit in the app: a CapCut template.
- You want to invent your own scene with an AI model: a prompt generator such as Dreamina, CapCut's AI video tool.
- You want the real trend, same moves, same camera and the song, starring you, your friends, your baby or your pet: a photo-to-trend template like the ones on this site.
1. A CapCut template
A template is a finished edit: cuts, effects, text and audio, with slots for your photos and clips. They are free, quick and shared straight from TikTok. The catch: a template can only rearrange the media you give it. If the trend is a performance, like a dance or an argument with the camera, you still have to film yourself doing it. And for brand-new trends there may be no template yet.
2. A text prompt
Prompt generators let you describe a scene and an AI model renders a new clip. That is the most flexible option, but the moves come from your words, not from the trend clip, so every run plays out differently and you get something in the spirit of the trend rather than the routine people recognize.
3. A photo-to-trend template
You pick the trend, upload one to three photos and the AI video model follows the original clip's moves, camera and timing, with the people in your photos in the lead roles. The song is added and synced. There is no prompt, no editing and no app to install, and pets and babies have their own templates.
Side by side
| CapCut template | Prompt generator | Photo-to-trend template | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starting point | A finished edit with media slots | A text prompt | The trend's real clip and your photos |
| Moves match the trend | Only if you film them | No, improvised | Yes, from the original |
| Pets or babies doing the routine | No | If you prompt for it | Yes, on pet and baby templates |
| Song | The template's audio | Usually added later | The trend's song, synced |
| Where | Mostly the CapCut app | Browser or app | Any browser |
| Price | Free | Plans or credits | From $7.99 a video, or packs from $9.90 |
When a template isn't enough
- The trend is a performance, not an edit. Bad Times, Burning Bridges and Smalltown Boy are about someone acting out a routine to camera.
- You want your pet in it. A dog standing up to argue with the camera needs a model that knows the moves, not a cut list. See AI pet video trends.
- You want the full clip with the song. Templates often run a few seconds; the trend itself might be 20 or 30.
- You're not on the app. A browser tool works on any phone or laptop.
And when a template is enough, a quick edit, free, inside an app you already use, use the template. The two also work together: make the performance here, then add text or stickers in CapCut.
FAQ
Can I make a TikTok trend video without CapCut? Yes. Every template on this site runs in the browser: photos in, an MP4 with the song out.
Why can't I find a CapCut template for a new trend? Templates are made by creators and appear after a trend takes off. A photo-to-trend template only needs the original clip, so new trends can arrive within days.
Do AI trend videos have a watermark? It depends on the tool. Videos made here never have one.
