How to Do the Window Peeper Trend (CapCut or One Photo)
How to do the window peeper trend from TikTok: what it is, where it started, the CapCut template route, and how to make the window peeper video from one photo, with your own food or your pet.
The window peeper trend is a 14-second TikTok clip filmed as if from outside an apartment block at night: the camera creeps toward the one lit window, the person inside is eating a burger, freezes mid-bite, stares straight into the lens and then pulls the curtain shut. To do it you need one photo of yourself and one of two tools: a CapCut template, which drops your face into fixed footage, or an AI video made from your photo, which renders a new clip of you. The form below is the second route: add a photo, keep the burger or pick pizza, a hot dog or a taco, and generate.

What is the window peeper trend?
The window peeper trend took off on TikTok on 20 October 2026, when @therealrodentspawn posted the window clip as a CapCut template with the caption "Try this filter yourself" and #windowpeeper. The same scene had already been going around as face swaps for about a week. Within a day it came back with hundreds of other faces, a bulldog at the table and a wave of tutorials.
It is a staged joke: the camera plays the peeper, and the person caught at the window is whoever made the clip. People also call it the window peeper filter, the window peeper effect or the window burger meme; Spanish captions say "efecto mirón de ventana". Search "window peeper" on Google and you mostly get Halloween window props, which have nothing to do with the trend.

How to do the window peeper trend from one photo
- Pick one photo. One person, sharp and front-facing, waist up if you have it. The stare is almost half the clip, so clear eyes matter most, and you stand up at the end, so your outfit shows.
- Add it in the form above. The window peeper template is already selected, 14 seconds in 9:16.
- Pick the food. The burger is the original. Pizza, hot dog and taco cost the same; the window, the stare and the curtain stay the same. The bag and the box stay plain, with no restaurant brand.
- Generate and download. The video takes a few minutes. The MP4 comes with the trend sound, ready to post.
Premium is 25 credits at 480p, 55 at 720p and 95 at 1080p; Balanced starts at 10. Your account's first Premium 480p video costs 20 credits, one video without an account starts at $7.99, there is no watermark, and failed renders are refunded automatically.
Pet version: switch the template to the pet and add a photo of your dog or cat alone. It sits at the table eating, spots the camera, stares while it chews, then stands up and pulls the curtain across.
Window peeper trend in CapCut: the template route
The TikTok tutorials for the trend all follow the same CapCut route. We have not tested these templates; this is what the tutorials showed on 21 October 2026:
- Open a window peeper post on TikTok that shows "CapCut · Try this template" above the caption.
- Tap it, then tap "Use template in CapCut". If the bar is missing, the tutorials open the creator's profile or search "window peeper template" inside CapCut.
- Pick one photo of you.
- Wait while CapCut builds the clip, then export and post.
A CapCut template keeps its creator's footage: the window, the room, the food, the clothes and the length are fixed, and only the face changes. Templates also get re-uploaded under new names, so check what a template actually makes before you use it.

What every window peeper video copies, second by second
Every window peeper video keeps the same beats. We timed them on the remix our template follows:
- 0–2 s: night, a dark apartment block, and the camera pushing in on the one lit window.
- 2–5 s: close on the window. You take big bites, eyes down, no idea anyone is watching.
- 5–10.5 s: the stare. You look up mid-chew and stare straight into the lens: cheeks full, slow chewing, no smile.
- 10.5–12.5 s: you put the food down, stand up and reach for the curtain.
- 12.5–14 s: you pull the curtain across until the window is covered.
These remixes went around on TikTok with ordinary faces at the window; most others use famous ones, which is not what this is for. A few of them are in the examples below.
Why window peeper videos work
A lit window in a dark building is a picture anyone reads with the sound off, and the push-in tells you where to look before the first bite. The joke needs no words and no dance: one face at one window, chewing and staring a few seconds too long. Then the curtain closes on a clean cut, and the clip loops straight back to the night outside.
Posting your window peeper video
- Turn on TikTok's AI-generated content label before you post; TikTok asks creators to label realistic AI videos of people.
- The trend sound is already on the MP4. To use the sound from TikTok's library instead, pick it in the sound picker and turn the clip's own sound down.
- Caption ideas: "when the neighbor sees your 2 am burger", "caught in 4K", "me on day 1 of my diet". Add #windowpeeper and #windowpeeperfilter.
- Use your own photo, or a friend's with a yes, and keep it a staged joke. Never film into a real window.
