Can You Make the Phone on the Train Video for Free?
The free ways to do the phone on the train trend (filming it yourself, CapCut, free AI credits), what each one leaves out, and when paying for a template makes sense.
Short answer: you can make a phone on the train video for free by filming it yourself, but not the AI version with your face in the Paris reel. Every ready-made template we found charges for it, and that includes this site. Here is what each free route gives you, what it leaves out, and when paying is worth it.

1. Film it yourself
It costs nothing, and it's how the trend started: musicians and creators taped their phones to metro windows, sang on the platform and ran after the train.
The catch is the stunt itself. On 5 September 2026 the Delhi Metro warned creators that phones stuck to train windows could inconvenience or injure other passengers and damage the phones, told them not to shoot such videos on its premises, and said "necessary action shall be taken".
If you film it yourself:
- Don't tape a phone to a train that will move, and don't run beside a departing train.
- Let a friend hold the phone for the "filmed from the train" shots, and keep the run away from the platform edge.
- Check your transit operator's rules before you film in a station.
You also only get the view your city has. The Paris version ends with the train crossing the Seine to the lit Eiffel Tower, and you can't fake that from your local platform.
2. CapCut
CapCut lists its templates as free, but we couldn't find one for this trend in October 2026: its "train trend" templates are slow-motion train edits and travel clips. A CapCut template edits footage you shot anyway, so it doesn't save you the filming. Where CapCut does help: cutting your own clips together for free and adding the sound in TikTok or Instagram when you post.
3. Free AI credits
Here is what the AI tools that make this trend give away, as of October 2026:
| Tool | What's free | Enough for this video? |
|---|---|---|
| Media.io | 3 daily check-in credits on the free plan | A prompt-it-yourself clip; free exports have a watermark, and the length and sound depend on the model |
| RemixMeme | 20 welcome credits | No. It says that covers about two images; its video needs 375–500 credits |
| MakeViral | Nothing; new accounts start with 0 credits | No. The video is 192 credits |
| imageat | Free sign-up | We found no free credits for video; the template is 191 or 409 credits |
| Phone Stuck to Train AI | Watching the previews | No. Each video needs a paid pass |
| MemeFX AI | Nothing | No |
So the only free AI route is Media.io's, where you write the scene in a prompt yourself. Its page warns that some models can't do the whole sequence in one clip, so you may have to make it shot by shot and stitch them together, and the free export has a watermark. Fine for a playful version of the idea, not for a copy of the Paris reel.
When paying makes sense
Paying is worth it when you want the real thing: your face on the Paris platform, the chase and the Eiffel Tower view, with the song, without a train stunt and without a watermark. If that's what you're after, the cheapest finished videos we found in October 2026 are:
- Phone Stuck to Train AI: $9.90 for one, or $29.90 for five. A shorter 14-second platform version at 480p, without the Eiffel Tower.
- MemeFX AI: from $9.99 for one, without an account. The 30-second Paris version, up to 1080p.
- RemixMeme: a 500-credit pack for $11.99 covers one 720p video of about 15 seconds, with no song.
- MakeViral: 192 credits, about $13–19 at its pack prices. The 33-second Paris version.
If you only want to join in for a laugh and don't mind how it looks, film a safe version with a friend for free. If you want the one everyone's copying, pay for one video rather than a subscription you'll forget to cancel.
