Where the Ghostface AI trend comes from
The trend borrows the masked killer from Scream, the 1996 slasher film that opens with a phone call. On 25 September 2025, Instagram user @cortneydryden posted what Know Your Meme calls the earliest known example: an AI photo of herself on a big 90s phone in a Y2K bedroom, the masked figure in the doorway behind her. A day later TikToker @keepingupwithmuva shared a set of the photos with the prompt and passed 2.7 million views in four days, most of the posts set to a remix of "Deceptacon" by Le Tigre.
Within days people made their own twists: couples, mirror selfies, the figure at the window or stealing the popcorn. In early October 2026 new Ghostface AI templates and remakes started to appear on TikTok again, now also as short videos where the figure moves.

FAQ
Ghostface AI trend: FAQ
A Halloween AI trend from late September 2025: a selfie becomes a grainy late-90s film scene of you on a corded phone in a dim bedroom, while a masked figure in a black hooded robe watches from the doorway behind you. It borrows the look of the 1996 slasher film Scream and came back in October 2026. This template makes the video version, where the figure steps into the room.
One still shot of about 8 seconds: you laugh on the phone, the line goes quiet and you look at the handset, you turn toward the door as the figure leaves the doorway, it stops right behind the bed and tilts its head, and you face the camera wide-eyed. No knife, no blood, no violence: it stays spooky.
Yes. The video keeps your own face, hair and gender and dresses you in a plain late-90s top, so it works for anyone; the sample on this page is a man.
No. The video shows a generic tall figure in a black hooded robe with a long white ghost mask, in the spirit of the trend. We are not connected to the films or to the mask maker; use your video for fun posts, not to sell anything.
Download it with the phone-call sound: a quiet laugh, an old phone ringing in the hallway and a low, tense score, with no song and no lyrics. The first posts of the trend used a remix of "Deceptacon" by Le Tigre; add it or any sound in TikTok or Instagram when you post.
Premium renders 480p for 20 credits, 720p for 40 and 1080p for 70; Balanced starts at 10. Your account's first full 480p video costs just 20 credits. No watermark, and failed renders are refunded automatically. No account needed: you can also buy a single video at checkout from $7.99.
The video rebuilds your face from one photo, so a dark, blurry or side-on selfie leaves it guessing. A sharp, front-facing photo in daylight helps most; sunglasses, hats and heavy filters make it harder.
Yes. Photos and videos are never published, shown to other users or used in our examples or marketing. Use your own photo, or that of an adult who agreed.
