Ghostface AI trend: the video version

Upload one selfie. You lie on pink satin bedding in a late-90s bedroom, laughing into a chunky corded phone, while a tall figure in a black hooded robe and a white ghost mask waits in the dark doorway. The line goes quiet, you turn around, and it steps into the lamp light right behind you.

How to make the Ghostface AI video

Three steps, about ten minutes, zero editing.

  1. 1

    Add one selfie

A sharp photo from the chest up, face to the camera. The video keeps your face and hair and dresses you in a plain 90s top.

  2. 2

    Pick a version and generate

Premium renders 480p for 20 credits, 720p for 40 and 1080p for 70; Balanced starts at 10. Failed renders are refunded automatically.

  3. 3

    Download and share

Download it with the phone-call sound, or add your own. Caption it "who keeps calling me" or "never answering unknown numbers again".

  5. 6–8 s

Where the Ghostface AI trend comes from

The trend borrows the masked killer from Scream, the 1996 slasher film that opens with a phone call. On 25 September 2025, Instagram user @cortneydryden posted what Know Your Meme calls the earliest known example: an AI photo of herself on a big 90s phone in a Y2K bedroom, the masked figure in the doorway behind her. A day later TikToker @keepingupwithmuva shared a set of the photos with the prompt and passed 2.7 million views in four days, most of the posts set to a remix of "Deceptacon" by Le Tigre.

Within days people made their own twists: couples, mirror selfies, the figure at the window or stealing the popcorn. In early October 2026 new Ghostface AI templates and remakes started to appear on TikTok again, now also as short videos where the figure moves.

  1. 20 Dec 1996

Scream opens in US cinemas; its masked killer starts the film with a phone call.

  3. 26 Sep 2025

@keepingupwithmuva shares the photos with the prompt and passes 2.7 million views in four days.

  4. Oct 2026

The trend comes back for a second Halloween, now also as video.

Which selfie works best

  • A clear selfie

From the chest up, face to the camera, in soft daylight.

  • Nothing on your face

No sunglasses, hat or strong filter. Your hair stays as it is in the photo.

  • One person per photo

With two faces in the photo, the video may mix them.
